Mr. W. Dalton dies, aged 83

An ex-mayor of Mitcham, Mr William Dalton (aged 83), Commonside East, Mitcham, died in Wilson hospital on Saturday. He had had a bronchial complaint.

The funeral service, which was attended by officials of the Council as well as friends of the family, was at the South London Crematorium, Streatham Vale, yesterday afternoon (Thursday).

Mr Dalton, a prominent local Liberal, became Mayor in 1942.

He was also prominent in the National Savings Organisation. He first became interested in savings during the Second World War when he was elected Chairman of the local savings committee.

He was forced to retire from the moment because of illness.

In 1942 Mr Dalton opened the savings centre at Fair Green, Mitcham, now taken over by the Trustee Savings Bank.
