Lansdowne Estate

The Lansdowne Property Co. Ltd. built the two blocks of shops with flats above in London Road, between the library and the Baptist church, as well as the houses in Downe Road.

From Mitcham Borough Council Minutes, Vol I 1934-35, 6th December 1934, page 84, Lansdowne Property Co. Ltd applied to build a block of seven shops with living accommodation above. It didn’t say which block this was, but as the southern block has seven units, then this could have been the first.

Also in 1934, the company asked for the name Downe Road to be used for its development of houses.
