A German-owned smelting business, whose Smelting Works is shown on this 1911 OS map, which was built in 1907 according to Eric Shaw in a Wandle Industrial Museum newsletter.
During World War 1, the business was confiscated in 1917 under the Trading With The Enemy Act.
Eric says that the Eyre Smelting Company bought the Tandem Smelting Syndicate Ltd., and they were then bought by Fry’s Metals in 1925.
An aerial photo taken in 1947 on the Historic England website shows “Eyre Smelting Co.” on the side of a chimney, suggesting that it was part of the Fry Group.
