The Intoxicating Properties of Two Pints of Beer.
At the Croydon Police Court Tuesday, James Lawrence, dealer, living at Queens-road, Mitcham, was charged with being drunk and disorderly in Church-road, Mitcham. Prisoner denied the charge, adding that he had only had two pints of beer all day.
P.-c. Winemark found prisoner in the Church-road, Mitcham, in a fighting attitude, making a great noise, with a crowd of persons round him. The person whom prisoner had been fighting with made off, but prisoner remained behind, and as he would not away when desired, he was taken into custody.
Dr. Carpenter, after telling prisoner that two pints of beer was good deal more intoxicating drink than he ought to take, fined him 3s., the alternative being seven days’ hard labour.
