The Dale Family and Beer

In 1874 Peter Dale is listed in Merton Lane as a beer retailer, and in the 1881 Census as same in Fieldgate. Note that Merton Lane is now known as Western Road.

The family shown in 1881 consisted of Peter 35 as the head, Sophia 34, his wife and sons Ralph 12, Stanley 7, Bertram 5, and Harold 1. Harry Dale, aged 23, a nephew is also shown,

In the 1891 Census, Peter Dale 46, is the publican of the Fountain Inn with Ralph, 22, as a barman. A new son Roy, is 9.

In the 1901 Census, Peter Dale, 57, is now the publican of the Gardener’s Arms. His wife is no longer listed and his sons Stanley, Harold and Roy are shown.
