GIRLS’ LIFE BRIGADE

The G.L.B. was founded in 1901 by the National Sunday School Union. It aims, through a fourfold programme of Spiritual, Physical, Educational and Social Activities, “to help and encourage girls to become useful Christian women.” Companies are organised in four sections: Cadets, 6-9 years Juniors, 10-12; Seniors, 13-15; Pioneers, 16 and over. Loyalty to Church and Sunday School is a condition of membership, and the motto of this, the oldest organisation for girls in Britain is: “To Save Life.”
