In 1948 the Borough Engineer reported the size and location of recreation grounds and open spaces that were allotments for the Dig For Victory campaign in World War 2.

The Canons Minutes – Children’s Playground Equipment

Physical Training, 14-5-46

I have given consideration to suitable sites for children’s playground equipment at “The Canons,” and recommend to the Committee that the equipment be sited on the allotment north of the entrance drive.
