NIGHT-TIME BLAZE AT VARNISH WORKS.
Fire Discovered By Late Home-Goer.Fire broke out during the night the Mitcham buildings that were formerly the Holborn Union Workhouse, and is now used by Messrs T. S. Jackson & Sons, varnish and floor polish works. They occupy an extensive range of build ings, including the dining hall and what was the chapel. The fire was discovered by a ‘bus driver, who was returning home at 3 a.m. . The outbreak was in a building adjoining the chapel, used as stores and messroom. The Mitcham Fire Brigade, when they arrived, found flames shooting up through roof. They made great efforts to save the adjoining buildings, which contained inflammable goods, and succeeded after a struggle lasting two and a half hours.
