Harry Gordon Dorrett died 5th March 1958 at Briar Wood Nursing Home, Worcester Park, Surrey. He left £14784 10s. 4d. in his will.

Obituary —— Death of well-known Rotarian A photographer of national fame and one of the pioneers of the art, whose headquarters for the past 27 years were at the famous historic Manor House in London Road, Mitcham, died in a Worcester Park nursing home last week at the age of 87. He was Mr. Harry Gordon Dorrett founder of the firm of H. G. Dorrett, Ltd., whose work as film and stage photographers particularly reached a very high standard, as did the purely personal side of their art. He was elected an honorary member of the Institute of British Photographers, of which he was a founder member in 1901. Mr. Dorrett, a leading figure in the Mitcham Rotary Club, and one of the most popular personalities in the public life of the borough, had been ill for about a year. Mrs. Dorrett died ten years ago. There were no children. Miss Nettie Moon, of Peaches Close, Cheam, a director of the firm and a close personal friend of the Dorretts for many years, will carry on the business in the Manor House, which is scheduled for preservation as an ancient monument.

Ashes scattered

“Mr Dorrett loved this place, which he bought nearly 30 years ago, and his whole life centred upon it and Mitcham,” Miss Moon told an “Advertiser” reporter. “With the help of the staff I shall continue the work and the Dorrett traditions in the old surroundings.”

At the funeral service and cremation at South London Crematorium on Monday a number of past presidents of the Institute of British Photographers, old newspaper photographer friends, and representatives of Mitcham Rotary Club were present. The ashes were later scattered during a private service at the Manor House garden.
