The building seen in the left of this photo was a pair of cottages, numbers 51 and 52 Commonside West. These were demolished in 1967.

Mitcham History Notes 
I lived in Whitford Gardens from 1946 to 1970 and was at the Grammar School when it used what we called the News of The World fields for games, but I have no recollection of those buildings whatsoever. Just shows how selective and unreliable memory can be!
