Established in 1853, according to this ad from Grace’s Guide :

NIGHT-TIME BLAZE AT VARNISH WORKS.
Fire Discovered By Late Home-Goer.

Fire broke out during the night the Mitcham buildings that were formerly the Holborn Union Workhouse, and is now used by Messrs T. S. Jackson & Sons, varnish and floor polish works. They occupy an extensive range of build ings, including the dining hall and what was the chapel. The fire was discovered by a ‘bus driver, who was returning home at 3 a.m. . The outbreak was in a building adjoining the chapel, used as stores and messroom. The Mitcham Fire Brigade, when they arrived, found flames shooting up through roof. They made great efforts to save the adjoining buildings, which contained inflammable goods, and succeeded after a struggle lasting two and a half hours.

The Parade

Parade of shops on east side of London Road, south of the Upper or Fair Green, consisting of 12 shops to Langdale Avenue, then a further 6 shops south of there. Historic England defines a ‘parade’ as

‘planned developments incorporating rows of shops (facing onto an outdoor space), with a strong degree of architectural uniformity…. (which) includes at least three shops’.

Built around 1905 according to Montague, in his Mitcham Histories : 12 Church Street and Whitford Lane, page 107.

Could the builder have been J. Harding? This planning application was approved at the same time as another for 12 houses in Langdale Avenue:
